"Louis Nameche" swimming pool at Molenbeek (Brussels)

Based on several successfull projects, swimming pools has become one of our specialities.  This project, awarded to us, is an in-depth refurbishment of the pool and associated equipment.

In january 2010, ALTIPLAN° won once again the design competition for the renovation of two social housing blocks (119 flats).  Execution due to start by mid-2011.

Parking RER, Louvain-la-Neuve

The architectural and structural study of this important car park has been awarded by the Belgian Railway to our team with Arcadis.  At the main access to the city, this complex will allow for construction of a new mixed-use area as superstructure.

SLRB Lennik

In joint venture with the contractors Thomas & Piron, ALTIPLAN° won the competition for the construction of another social and semi-social complex of 200 units at Anderlecht (Brussels). Works are due to start in March 2010.

SFAR Paroisse, Haren (Brussels)

90 apartments will be build on this intricate plot. Sheltering from noise of adjacent rail lines and opening to southern light have been the guidelines of this striking concept.

CPAS Brussels, Bruyn Nord

ALTIPLAN° has won the competition to design and build 200 social housing units in Neder-Over-Hembeek (Brussels). The new neighborhood is made out of 4 groups of mixed type apartments, from flats up to 4 bedrooms apartments.

STIB Marconi, Brussels

ALTIPLAN° associated with Grontmij and Transamo has won the competition to build a tram maintenance hall.  The challenge of ALTIPLAN°’s entry in the competition was to prove that such large structure can become attractive and well integrated.

Norwegian Embassy, Paris

After the Brussels Embassy, Hille Melbye arkitekten, Oslo and ALTIPLAN°architects associated with Arte Charpentier, Paris have been awarded the restoration and extension of the future Norwegian Embassy to be located rue de Lille in Paris.

SLRB Stockel-Konkel

ALTIPLAN° associated with Entreprises Louis de Waele has won the open competition to design and build a new social housing neighbourhood in Brussels. The 110 residential units are organised around a new pedestrian promenade.

At the Professional MotorSport World Expo, held in Köln, Germany, the new facilities designed by Acte1-ALTIPLAN°architects have won the award for “Motorsport Facility of the Year”.

SLRB Lennik

ALTIPLAN° won the competition for the construction of a social complex of 200 units. The concept is based on an attractive inner pedestrian green space overlooked by the balconies and living spaces.  Externally, the elevations are sheltering this space from external nuisances.  Low energy consumption is targeted.

Stone Interpretive Centre

The project aims to develop a centre that is more educational in character compared to a “museum” in the strict sense. The interior volumes and magnificent glass roofs represent one of the particularities of the halls. This former power station is a listed building of great architectural as well as historical interest. The new intervention will have an industrial character.

Drecot

The philosophy behind the development of this renovation project has been to cut energy expenditure. Several solutions have been implemented: reduced glass surfaces, a frontage design that increases the amount of cast shadow, and ventilation at night to cool the building envelope.

Social Housing Lahaye

The heart of the site is arranged as a point of convergence for various pathways. It also provides a space for relaxation and play in which integration of a pétanque club is a stand-out feature. The project’s economic imperatives have led to a radical simplifying of volumes. Diversity is maintained through the overlaying of various typologies.

Martin Pecheur

Award winning project following a competition for a housing development next to a retirement home "Abbeyfield". The design focuses on the environmental and durability issues: the apartment layout, the site organisation and the technical choices answer to the Town Council’s ambitions.

Fond'Roy Hospital

The hospital stands in beautiful grounds. Within the framework of the permits issued between 1997 and 2001, the site’s renovation began with the day-care hospital. Construction of a new wing, to accommodate most of the patients, followed. Site rehabilitation will be completed with the construction of a sports hall.

Le Marquis

The complete renovation of this symbolic building has concentrated on two key aspects: technical upgrading of its floors and, above all, creation of a new sequence upon entry and a foyer in which movements and shared spaces converge with one another.

Cortenberg

The project has endeavoured to cultivate a new image, optimise the building’s surface and enhance its versatility. The giant glass screen adorning the new frontage is interspersed with recessed openings that accentuate the scale of the building.

Les Chemins de la Dyle

The project is being developed along the new avenue leading to Ottignies railway station. Volumes are split into 3 articulated sections that follow the profile and incline of the roadway. These volumes are accentuated through the use of wooden facings in 2 different tones.

The “Résidence Matisse” is part of a housing development which began ten years ago in the “Val d’Or” district. Located opposite the future public space at the heart of the district, the “Matisse” project provides the interface with other future site developments.

Psychiatric Clinic

A crucial stage in the renovation of the Fond'Roy site is the new building work to accommodate a large number of patients. The work is being accompanied by the re-alignment of the Clinic onto a new public square. The architecture is contemporary, yet inspired by templates from renovated ancient buildings.

Tesoris

One of the buildings of great architectural value was totally renovated, its central wing reconstructed and the monumental internal courtyard refurnished. The other buildings were demolished and a new office building constructed in a contemporary style. A glass corridor spanning four floors links the two buildings.

Electrabel HQ

The project encapsulates the contemporary approach to the new workplace in an urban environment. The complex geometry of the building has been consolidated by the addition of new volumes. The interior layout is also highly distinctive, boasting a conference centre and restaurant set around the lobby area.

Herstal Sport Hall

The sports centre has the following main features: a multi-sports hall measuring 36 m by 40 m, a climbing space 14 m in height, a room for combat sports, a table tennis room, a gymnasium, meeting rooms, a cafeteria, changing rooms for players and officials, etc. Stands provide seating for 720 spectators.

Home Roi Baudouin

The project involved the retro-fitting of the rest home to bring it up to modern standards and increase capacity to 187 beds. Building work was phased so that accommodation for a minimum 130 residents could be maintained. Several wings were demolished and new ones built. Other existing wings were fully refurbished. The project also included landscaping, security enhancements and 20 parking bays.

La Rasante

The setting inspired a somewhat ‘organic’ vision for the project. Resolutely family-orientated, it combines indoor and outdoor activities. The work of transforming the layout of the centre’s volumes, indoor and outdoor sightlines and the use of natural light have all been further enhanced by high-quality landscaping.

EU Parliament Crèche

The meticulously detailed project implemented here has given this venerable building and its contemporary extension a scale and a quality in keeping with modern-day requirements for the provision of childcare. The natural materials used, colours and shapes denote the boundaries of the various areas.

Tour & Taxis

The Tour & Taxis site has been the setting for one of the most innovative urban-planning projects in Brussels. Appointed to develop the master plan, the project transforms the derelict area into a new district with numerous urban functions - housing, offices, retails, public and leisure facilities.

FOREM Skills Centre

The project aimed to redevelop a centre dating back to the 80s. Particular attention has been paid to flows and to making the centre’s image more dynamic.  A great deal of attention has been devoted to the reception areas and to natural light. The project incorporates an extension for new construction technologies.

St-Jean General Hospital

The hospitalÂ’s new wing was a major part of its refurbishment. The guidelines aimed to enhance the impact of the main entrance and re-align internal flows. Medical facilities were also enhanced with the addition of new operating theatres as well as four new patient wards with a deliberately toned down clinical aspect.

Stanhope Hotel

The project aimed to incorporate three office buildings within the existing hotel and double its capacity. Meticulous attention was paid to ensuring that the scale and ‘feel’ of the location were preserved. Integration of the old townhouse located on the Square de Meeûs side provides a prestigious entrance for the hotel.

Woluwe Shopping Centre

Access ways and deliveries have been overhauled and re-aligned. On the outside, new functions such as unloading bays have been treated as sets of volumes that hold together the existing frontages. On the inside, technical upgrades have been accompanied by a total makeover of the central mall’s architecture.

Woluwe Heights

The master plan shows a structure made up of four sectors: two office buildings together with two residential units (condominiums) at the rear. Architecturally, the project has a classical look combining natural stone, structural glazing and zinc roof areas. The space is laid out in such a way as to maximise flexibility.

Kinnarps

The building’s presence is signalled by striking architectural unity towards the ring. A feature wall ties the project together, marking both the entrance and then extending inside the building.  The wall and its glass roof then lead the visitor on across to the showroom on the building’s upper floor.

Swimming Pool "Espadon"

The old swimming pool has been transformed into a top aquatic leisure and wellness centre. The glue-laminated framework and the large windows opening onto the public lawns accentuate the spacious pool area, which is surrounded by the wellness centre, toddler pools, slides, etc.

Parhelie Centre

This psychiatric centre for children is set within the beautiful grounds of the Fond’Roy hospital. The 2 projects were the building of the old house, which has been renovated to accommodate therapeutic workshops and administrative functions, and a new construction, designed to accommodate the children themselves.

Alliance KLMN

Electrabel Control Room

Design of a control centre for the monitoring of gas and electricity networks. The centre provides a workplace for operational control staff who monitor events and are operational around the clock. The centre also accommodates fault coordinators, an emergency centre, database managers and fault-message handling.

Quartier Astrid

The master plan developed for the site’s purchaser and used as the basis for the Individual Land-Use Plan (PPAS) was inspired by “New Urbanism” principles. Once completed, the complex will contain 110 single-family dwellings, three office buildings, a care home and a further ten residential buildings.

Kinna

The project consists of 2 buildings situated on top of a shared basement and linked by a walkway. The space between the buildings incorporates a “public square”.  This central area is home to the building’s two entrances and ground floor spaces reserved for commercial activities. Volumes are resolutely contemporary.

SLRB Berchem

Five volumes sporting the same variety of facing brick extend along a backbone of galleries and stairways. Frontages are similar, but entirely distinguishable from one another by virtue of their changing windows and balconies. The simple, understated volumes guarantee economy of construction and thermal efficiency.

Trelo

Economic analysis pinpointed the benefits of preserving the structure and concentrating on rectifying certain weak points. The architectural aspect has focused on a new entry concept and refurbishment at the corner between rue de La Loi and de Trèves. The result is greater project clarity and sharper perceptions.

A logistics centre which can be divided into three independent units, each with its own accompanying office area. The overall effect satisfies the most recent and stringent requirements in terms of logistics management. The storage areas offer 9.5 m of headroom. Loading bays are fitted with hydraulic levellers.

Galerie Ravenstein

The Ravenstein gallery is a remarkable complex originally built by the Dumont brothers in 1958. Located opposite Brussels Central railway station and the Palais des Beaux Arts, the purpose of the work was to renovate the gallery by restoring its signs, lighting, marble surfaces, mosaics, office entrances and toilet facilities.
