Sankt Joseph Nursing Home
extension, conversion and redevelopment of the reception area
The project of the Sankt Joseph Nursing Home involves the demolition of an old three-level building, the construction of a new 88-bed extension wing, the conversion of six bedrooms to prevailing standards, the transformation and redevelopment of the reception and a part of the administration area, and redesigning the surrounds.
The new construction is limited to two levels. The volume connects to the existing building and creates a courtyard for residents. The building fits in perfectly with its surrounding context. The exterior façades run parallel to the Limburger Weg and the Schwesternheim, integrating the building into its urban context and increasing the usable area inside the building. The positioning of the interior façades overlooking the courtyard is determined by the existing building that is being maintained.
The interior traffic has been skilfully patterned by reference to the volumes housing the technical areas, washrooms, storage and stairs/lifts. The complex is designed to let in a maximum of natural light, while offering views over the surrounding neighbourhood.
The surrounds have been totally redesigned to offer residents and visitors a pleasant living space.
