Line 18 – Orly Airport-Versailles Chantiers

construction of infrastructures and buildings for the automated metro

For the industrial buildings we proposed a design and architecture tying in with the surrounding countryside.

The buildings’ planted green roofs are pleated to let natural light into the workshops below and to make them visible from the public area and the viaduct of the future Ligne 18 which runs along the site’s northern edge.

The architectural challenge involved not just to blend in the development with the woods and farmlands surrounding the Palaiseau site, but also to meet the demands of 21st-century industrial buildings: i.e. to be functional,
‘smart’ and sustainable, while at the same time showcasing the work done by the staff there.

The aim of the proposed project was to make it understandable for both the staff and for visitors. To this end, the majority of the premises are in front of the building, close to the site entrance and the parking lot. The reception areas are designed in such a way that they are easily understandable from the entrances and the parking lot, making it easy for staff and visitors to find their way and to facilitate secure access to the “automated” areas.

The very transparent reception areas are recessed in the façade.
